World Urban Parks Congress

CREATING A VISION OF THE FUTURE FROM THE LEGACY OF THE PAST

World Urban Parks is excited to announce its 2021 virtual World Urban Parks Congress following the success of the 2020 Parks for all Congress with the City of Tirana. It has been a trying time for today’s park leaders as they face unprecedented challenges. Now, more than ever, parks must take the stage to demonstrate the relevant nature they serve to forge healthier and more resilient cities in, through, and out of the pandemic.

The World Congress 2021 will be held virtually from December 5 - 10, 2021.

What will be our legacy for cities and communities?

This Congress will explore the following key questions:

  • What is the legacy of park leaders - How will an all-inclusive leadership shape the legacy and grow emerging leaders?
  • Can we learn from the past and enable the future?
  • Who’s vision - are our Parks for All - How will all-inclusive and participatory park advocates ensure equity, access to parks, and health and wellness benefits for all?

“The measure of any great civilization is its cities and a measure of a city’s greatness is to be found in the quality of its public spaces, its parks and squares.” — John Ruskin

Partner Congresses

World Urban Parks is proud to partner with national, regional and local organisations to co-host congresses.

World Urban Parks gives preference to partnering with World Urban Parks member associations, cities and organisations. World Urban Parks will also consider partnering to add an international dimension (e.g. world status and speakers) to any other related conference that may not include broad member attendance. This level of partnering may also be considered on an ad hoc basis and not just from the Expression of Interest (EOI) process.

Consequently, interested organisations can express an interest to host any of the following levels,

  1. Level One: Regional & Local Event: Cross branding and partnership opportunity
  2. Level Two: Partnered Conference: International Conferences with any relevant organisation
  3. Level Three: World Urban Parks Regional Congress with a national/state association, city or large organisation
  4. Level Four: World Urban Parks World Congress with a national association, major city or organisation

IFPRA Japan 30th Anniversary & World Urban Parks Japan 5th Anniversary World Urban Parks Japan International Symposium 2021 - The Role of Open Spaces to Enrich Our Life in "New Normal"

May 19, 2021

We are honoured to organise an international symposium that celebrates the 30th anniversary of IFPRA* Japan and the 5th anniversary of World Urban Parks Japan.

In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have witnessed drastic changes in our social lives, with an emerging movement to seek out a new society and new ways of living. Such transformations have also prompted us to newly appreciate the value of parks and green areas in the public domain.

Based on these circumstances, the symposium will discuss what changes might affect the current state of public parks and other green areas and how we should shape future urban policy, in order to provide useful insights for both Japan and abroad from a broad range of perspectives.
